Glühwein…A Weihnachten Must Have

Here is a traditional Bavarian recipe for Glühwein that I have taken from a lovely Bavarian cook book we have.  The perfect Christmas drink for a cold winters day, relaxing by the fire with the sound of Christmas carols playing in the back ground 🙂

Gluhwein

Ingredients

3 cups red wine
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cinnamon stick
3 cloves
2 orange slices
1 tablespoons rum

How to make

  1. Put all the ingredients into a heavy saucepan 
  2. Bring to the boil
  3. Strain the delicious mixture
  4. Fill heat-proof mugs and enjoy!

A little bit of Christmas in a cup 😉

As a non-alcoholic version you can swap the red wine for apple juice and leave out the rum 🙂
